About Rob Wallis
Robert wallis is an artist “made in hampstead garden suburb “after moving from Belsize park to live in the country. He has travelled widely in his life around the 3 miles from where he was born in st johns wood.
He mainly travels in his imagination and came across painting from his quest to recover from the white wash he experienced at school and the numbness of training as a chartered accountant .
He is a director of the art stables in finchley where you can often find him painting or supporting others to find their individual mark making talents who were discouraged from their creative pursuits by nasty teachers ….or just want to rediscover their gifts .
He paints in oil and inspired by life ,making mistakes and travelling .He is indebted to certain painters and creative souls ..particularly Phillipa Cleydon and Denzil Forrester who spoke a language of heart rather than the head he could understand.
He is untrained in the classical sense of posh art conservatoires …and spends his life getting out of his head to respond to what he sees in front of his nose as filtered by responses to nature …people and bonkas thoughts and feelings.
humour is very important to him... .
His approach has developed over the last decade ,and interest in portals that may exist between the imaginary and physical worlds .
little things in life inspire his paintings and works mainly in his studio from photographs as a starting point or a sketch or two.
he loves to characterise animals in a colourful and loose expression usually laying down a complementary layer of warm tone first .
he allows mistakes and process to show in his completed paintings .
his originals are for sale or prints he creates at home in his studio .
